ArcelorMittal Prepares to Introduce New Electrical Steel
06/02/2017 - ArcelorMittal said it will formally kick off sales of its second-generation iCARe electrical steels at this year’s Coil Winding, Insulation & Electrical Manufacturing Exhibition, which is being held later this month in Berlin, Germany.
ArcelorMittal first introduced its iCARe steels in 2012. The products are designed specifically for electric vehicles.
“The main challenge today continues to be the limited distance over which an electric car can be driven," said Sigrid Jacobs, worldwide development director for ArcelorMittal’s electrical steels. “That is why we support manufacturers of drive systems in their efforts to develop more efficient and better-performing motors by using improved materials like the new iCARe steels.”
The company said the second-generation product allows for improved power density, which, in turn, enables lighter motors that produce the same performance.
