ArcelorMittal Poland has been presented with an award by the Polish magazine Nowy Przemysł for its contribution to Polish industry, supporting the country’s development and helping attract global investors.
“Despite the dark clouds that sometimes cast shadows over the country, we did not stop investing and continued transforming the Polish industry,” said Sanjay Samaddar, chairman of ArcelorMittal Poland and CEO of Flat Carbon Europe’s business division east, at the “Changing the Polish Industry” forum held in Warsaw on 11 February.
The annual forum is one of the most important economic conferences in Poland, attended by state representatives. In his opening comments, Janusz Piechociński, Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Poland, explained how the future drivers of growth in the country will be found in the energy industry, infrastructure investment, innovation, cooperation between business and the academic world, deregulation, EU budgets and investment financing.
Together with other major companies operating in the country, ArcelorMittal Poland was recognized for having developed a sustainable business in the country, as well as having invested in Polish industry, creating proper conditions for global investors in Poland and in Europe as a whole.
“The global economic crisis which hit us in 2008 affected the European economy, and was particularly painful for the steel industry. But ArcelorMittal proved that it is serious about the commitments made to Poland. Our answer to the global issues is to become better and better, and to quickly identify and address problems,” said Sanjay Samaddar, who accepted the award on behalf of the company.
He also thanked ArcelorMittal Poland’s employees for their engagement, and dedicated the award to each and every one of them. “Without the right people, no business stands a chance of sustainable development. I am delighted that I can work with people who not only have a very strong knowledge of steel making, but for whom steelmaking is a passion. It is easy to be motivated, committed and hard-working when times are good, but it is during bad times that we are put to the test. My Polish colleagues have passed this test and I would like to thank them for their engagement from the bottom of my heart,” he added.
