ArcelorMittal Poland to Invest PLN 1.7 m in Zdzieszowice

ArcelorMittal Poland, the sole owner of a coking plant in Zdzieszowice and six steel plants in the Silesia and Malopolska regions, has presented social investment plans worth PLN 1.7 m. The plans, which will be launched in the Zdzieszowice and Lesnica municipalities by the end of 2011, will bring the total value of the company’s investments for the year to PLN 2 m.

“Our global business strategy focuses on support for local communities in the proximity of our units,” said Sanjay Samaddar, CEO and BOD Chairman of ArcelorMittal Poland. “We try to respond to the needs of citizens and authorities of Chorzow, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Krakow, Sosnowiec, Świętochłowice and now also Zdzieszowice. We are committed to being a reliable partner to them.”

ArcelorMittal Poland’s PLN 1.7 m investment will be allocated to the construction of a sports ground at Primary School No. 2 and modernization of the Zdzieszowice nursery. The Day Care Centre and Stefan Wyszynski School at Zdzieszowice, where a modern language lab will be put in place, will also receive financial support from ArcelorMittal Poland.

The company had granted PLN 260,000 earlier this year to the hospital in Kedzierzyn Kozle, which allowed the hospital to purchase an ambulance that already serves the town’s citizens. Support from the company will also enable the hospital in Krapkowice to equip an EKG laboratory with modern devices. Some funds have also been dedicated to a special-needs school and education center in the Lesnica municipality.

“We are very satisfied with the investments of ArcelorMittal Poland in Zdzieszowice,” commented Dieter Przewdzing, Mayor of Zdzieszowice. “The company is changing the face of our municipality in terms of both business and community investments. We believe that our cooperation with the company will be successful also in the forthcoming years, and Zdzieszowice will be proud not only of Europe’s largest coke plant but also - thanks to the support of ArcelorMittal Poland - the most modern infrastructure and the highest level of education.”

Equipped in state-of-the-art installations, the coke plant in Zdzieszowice and Lesnica municipalities is the largest installation of this type in Europe.
