ArcelorMittal Ostrava Tubular Products Commissions New Coating Line
02/26/2014 - ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Ostrava (AMTPO), a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal Ostrava, has commissioned a new UV coating line.
The line worth CZK 48.2 million will double the capacity of coating pipe production from 24,000 to 42,000 metric tons per year. At the same time it will also improve the quality and resistance of the coating against mechanical damage. Improved anti-corrosion properties of UV coating are required mainly by the customers to whom pipes are shipped overseas, i.e., customers from the USA and the Near East. UV coating will be used on smooth pipes, boiler pipes, line pipes, casing and tubing.
“We have built the new line in order to satisfy the increasing demands of the overseas customers who require UV anti-corrosion coating on pipes which guarantees six months protection. The main reason is overseas transport because the pipes without UV coating are were subject to faster corrosion caused by the damp conditions,” says Libor Černý, CEO of AMTPO.
UV coating is currently the best available technique for pipe coating. After spraying and subsequent pass through the curing cabin, UV coating is cured within 2 seconds. This means that lengthy drying of the coating is avoided and pipes can be immediately prepared for delivery to the customer. At the same time thanks to using the best available technique, the new line has lower environmental impact.
During the coating process in the new line the pipes are automatically loaded by a loading machine to the input conveyor. Then the pipes pass through degreasing, spraying of the longitudinal strip, inscriptions and logos and measuring of the pipe length. Subsequently, UV coating is applied in the cabin which is then cured in a cabin equipped with UV lamps. A rotary feeder places the pipes on transversal conveyor and at the end of this conveyor the pipes are bundled.
