ArcelorMittal Ostrava to Supply Tubes for Water Conduit Project in France

ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Ostrava (AMTPO), a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal Ostrava in the Czech Republic, has concluded an important contract worth several tens of millions crowns for supplies of water tubes with polypropylene coating for an extensive project of construction of drinking water conduit in the north of France. In April and May, the Ostrava-based tube plant will supply ten kilometers of spirally welded tubes with inner cement lining and with external polypropylene coating.
The total length of the water conduit named Noreade that will lead to the city of Lille is 66 kilometers. “This year, the first approximately 30 kilometers will be built of which the Ostrava tube plant will supply approximately one third. We are also negotiating on cooperation in 2014 when the construction of the second half of the conduit is planned,” said Zuzana Blahútová, sales & marketing director at AMTPO.
Spirally welded steel tubes with external diameter of 711.0 mm and wall thickness of 7.1 mm for drinking water supply are lined with cement mortar on the inside. The external surface is coated with three layers of polypropylene insulation, which AMTPO has newly introduced this year after successful testing as a protection against mechanical, thermal or chemical damage during storage, transport, installation, and operation. The polypropylene insulation is also resistant to temperatures ranging from minus 20 up to plus 110 °C. Furthermore, one end of the tube is equipped with a socket joint allowing easier assembly when connecting the tubes.
