ArcelorMittal Ostrava Invests in Screens to Reduce Noise in Bartovice
09/27/2010 - Four anti-noise screens separate the marshaling yard from the residential zone at Bartovice, erected along the railway track where trains are marshaled and transferred to the ArcelorMittal Ostrava railway siding. The fourth anti-noise screen of nearly 400 meters in length was just recently commissioned.
Four anti-noise screens separate the marshalling yard from the residential zone at Bartovice, erected along the railway track where trains are marshaled and transferred to the ArcelorMittal Ostrava railway siding.
“Through this route we receive almost all raw materials, spare parts, and empty trains to load. As it is in the vicinity of a residential area, it is important for us to reduce the noise levels there,” said CGO Petr Baranek.
ArcelorMittal Ostrava’s investment totaled 14.6 million crowns.
The first stage of the noise reduction project—erection of three anti-noise screens of 100, 150 and 28 metres in length—was completed in November. The fourth anti-noise screen of nearly 400 meters in length and 4.5 to 8 meters in height (depending on the terrain) has now been commissioned. The supplier company was GEPA Zlín.
The anti-noise screens are made of sandwich acoustic absorptive panels—prefabricated wooden panels with an inserted noise-absorbing layer. The screens are absorptive on both sides. The panels are 12 cm thick. The lower part of the screen that is attached to the ground is a concrete slab.
