ArcelorMittal Ostrava Introduces New Chief Operating Officer

ArcelorMittal Ostrava announced the appointment of Hans Ludwig Rosenstock as the company’s new Chief Operating Officer from June 1. Rosenstock replaces Josef Buryan who is now in charge of management of subsidiaries from the same date.

“Ostrava metallurgical plant can expect bright future. At times when huge investments into the latest technologies are prepared the position of Chief Operating Officer is a great challenge to me,” indicated Rosenstock when taking up his office.

In his new position, Rosenstock, 50, will report to ArcelorMittal Ostrava CEO Augustine Kochuparampil. Rosenstock graduated from Clausthal Technical University (Germany). Later he acquired a Ph.D. in metallurgy at Aachen Technical Institute. His career in metallurgy began in 1987 in Thyssen Group, and he has been employed at ArcelorMittal from 2003.

On June 6, the new Chief Operating Officer also was coopted onto and elected as the Vice Chairman of ArcelorMittal Ostrava Board of Directors.

Apart from his assignment under which he manages and coordinates the subsidiaries, Buryan has become an advisor of Kochuparampil, to whom he still reports. “ArcelorMittal Ostrava split some of its strategic operations into separate legal entities recently. Since these subsidiaries require a higher coordination it was necessary to entrust their management to someone who is experienced in the management of production activities,” said Augustine Kochuparampil, CEO.

Buryan, 60, graduated from Ostrava Technical University where he studied the Mechanical Technology branch. He has been employed at the Ostrava metallurgical plant since 1971, where he worked in various positions such as Steel Plant Head of Operation, Hot Strip Minimill Director, and Steel Plant Director. “There is quite a lot of those like me who know that when somebody gets steeped in steel he is usually caught and held tight by it,” says Josef Buryan about his passion for work with a metallurgical company.

ArcelorMittal Ostrava a.s., the largest metallurgical company in the Czech Republic, is also a member of the world’s largest metallurgical group, ArcelorMittal. ArcelorMittal Ostrava’s yearly production capacity is 3 million tonnes of steel of which some 50% is exported to more than 80 countries all over the world. It employs almost 6000 people.
