ArcelorMittal Ostrava Develops New Type of Steel for Power Gen industry

Thanks to these properties, products made of this steel will be used mainly in the heating and power generation sectors.

“This steel grade can be used for steam piping, heat exchangers and piping for transport of hot substances. It is also suitable for boilers and machines working in increased temperatures. Besides that it has very good weldability using standard methods,” said Zdeněk Vašek, the head of the R&D department that participated on the development of the new steel grade.

The special properties of this steel are achieved mainly by adding molybdenum, which ensures increased resistance to high operating temperatures of up to 500°C. Thanks to the specific properties, this steel grade is suitable mainly for power generation, incineration plants, and heating sectors. The Ostrava based mill produces this steel grade in the form of sections, round and flat bars as well as seamless and welded tubes and flat products.
