ArcelorMittal Organizes Ecological Picnic in Poland

Organized by ArcelorMittal Poland in cooperation with Tauron, a “family ecological picnic” was recently held by the Pogoria IV Reservoir in Dąbrowa Górnicza. A highlight of the picnic was planting 100 trees, which marked the beginning of a larger project launched this year by both companies.

ArcelorMittal Board of Director members Surojit Ghosh and Stefan Dzienniak, together with Joanna Schmid, Vice President of Tauron, presented the President of Dąbrowa Górnicza, Zbigniew Podraza, with a commitment that by the end of this year the companies will have planted trees, seedlings, and shrubs worth 150,000 PLN.

The event was held in cooperation with Aeris Futuro Foundation, which runs a project called Czas na Las (Time for Forests), as 2011 was declared the International Year of Forests by the United Nations. The event was hosted by Tomasz Zubilewicz.

During the picnic, participants could calculate their ecological footprint using a CO2 calculator, witness the production of vat paper, and express creativity while constructing objects and jewelry from waste products.
