ArcelorMittal Names New President

In a statement, the company said the promotion reflects Mittal’s increasing global strategic role throughout the organization. In addition to his role as chief financial officer, he is the chief executive of ArcelorMittal Europe. 

He will continue to hold those responsibilities. He also is the son of chairman and chief executive Lakshmi Mittal.

"Aditya has proved himself an effective and accomplished manager as group CFO and CEO of our European operations, delivering results and creating value for the company. He will continue to work with me in shaping the future strategic direction of the group," the elder Mittal said. 

In other personnel news, the company said executive officer and executive vice president Henri Blaffart will retire at the end of the month. Blaffart, 63, currently serves as a member of the management committee and as head of human resources and corporate services.
 
“Henri has been a much-valued member of our senior management team. He has given tremendous service to the company, led many challenging projects and made a considerable contribution to the company’s performance. We wish him a happy and fulfilling retirement,” Lakshmi Mittal said in a statement. 

Blaffart has overseen ArcelorMittal’s global human resources efforts since 2013 and took on the oversight for its legal, communications, corporate responsibility, capital goods, purchasing, shipping and IT functions in 2014. 

Blaffart began his career with ArcelorMittal in 1978, when he was hired on as a civil engineer in charge of product development with a predecessor company. He later left for a position with the University of Liege in Belgium to lead on research projects, but returned to a predecessor company Metal profil Belgium, where he worked his way up to chief executive.

Bart Wille, who recently joined ArcelorMittal from steel wire processor Bekaert. Prior to that, he held a number of human resources-related positions with Unilever. 

"In Bart, we have found an excellent, highly experienced HR executive to lead this important strategic function and continue the good work of Henri and the team," Mittal said.
