ArcelorMittal Moves French Decarbonization Project Forward

According to ArcelorMittal, the pre-FEED work wrapped up last year on the project, which entails installation of a 2.5-million-metric-ton direct reduction plant and two electric arc furnaces. The units will replace one of two blast furnaces.

“Completion of the FEED stage, expected later this year, will determine the industrial layout for the project, the implementation schedule and final budget, and confirm the viability of the project,” the company said.

In another development, ArcelorMittal said it signed a letter of intent with French state-owned energy supplier EDF Energy for the long-term supply of low-carbon electricity to Dunkirk and its other site Fos-sur-mer.
