ArcelorMittal Monlevade Commissions Primetals Technologies Hot Metals Desulfurization System
10/10/2019 - The installation is part of the quality improvement program and expansion of the Brazilian facility.
The 13-ton hot metal desulfurization station, along with a new dedusting system capable of processing 900,000 m3/hour, recently commenced operation.
According to Primetals Technologies, the desulfurization station is its first to combine a volumetric dosing device for Mg and a pressure dispenser for CaO. This allows for lower sulfur levels, a significant reduction in desulfurization agents and a shorter processing time. Primetals Technologies was responsible for the engineering, supply and advisory services for reaction and start-up.
The dedusting system covers two basic oxygen furnace (BOF) converters, the desulfurization and slag skimming stand, as well as the hot metal mixer. Primetals Technologies engineered and installed the charging coolers for charging evacuation, pulse-jet filters and two induced-draft fans.
