ArcelorMittal Mining Promotes COO to Top Spot
11/10/2020 - ArcelorMittal Mining Canada G.P. has promoted general manager and chief operating officer Mapi Mobwano, naming him as president and chief executive.
Mobwano joined ArcelorMittal in July 2019 and has led an extensive transformation project aimed at making the company a world reference in the safe and efficient production of iron ore, the company said.
“Mapi Mobwano's appointment at the helm ArcelorMittal Mining Canada G.P. confirms his leadership and exceptional management abilities,” it added.
A mining engineer, Mobwano has worked for more than 20 years in the mining industry in South Africa. Prior to joining ArcelorMittal, he was chief operating officer of Anglo American's Sishen open pit iron ore mine, the largest mine in Africa with an annual production of around 30 million metric tons.
"I am honored to have been chosen to lead this major company firmly established in Quebec. With the strong management team we have assembled over the last year, we are embarking on a new era for our organization,” Mobwano said.
