ArcelorMittal Mill Wraps Up Converter Replacement
02/23/2023 - ArcelorMittal Zenica has put a new Primetals Technologies-built LD converter into service, the equipment manufacturer reports.
According to Primetals Technologies, installation of the 125-ton converter has led to reduced tap-to-tap times, and an optimized vessel shape has allowed for a nearly 30% increase in reaction volume.
“This is a very successful project — everything went smoothly and within the expected timeframe. Thanks to the new solution, the converter reaction volume has increased, and this vessel has shorter tap-to-tap times. These are strong benefits for us,” says Adnan Topalovic, head of the CAPEX and projects department at ArcelorMittal Zenica, located in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Primetals Technologies provided the converter vessel, trunnion ring, suspension system, bearings and housings, and tilting drive coupling. The company also was responsible for engineering, project management and quality assurance. Additionally, it provided advisory services for construction work and implementation.
