According to Primetals Technologies, the system, which utilizes a production management system with a complementary manufacturing execution system and an autonomous coil shuttle, serves the hot rolling mill and skinpass mill.

Primetals Technologies said the system controls the entire quality management process in the hot rolling mill and skinpass mill, automatically deciding whether a given strip is sent to the warehouse or to the skinpass mill for post-processing.

"The new solution with all systems from a single source enables automated quality assessment in real time and reduces unnecessary transport routes when bundles are diverted directly to the skinpass for post-processing due to detected defects," said ArcelorMittal North America chief digital officer and chief information officer Antoine Dhennin.
