ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih Recognized for Environmental Excellence
11/22/2010 - ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih has won the award for ecological excellence in the national "Environmental Quality and Safety" competition as a result of several projects that improved the environmental performance of the company last year.
ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih has won the award for ecological excellence in the national "Environmental Quality and Safety" competition as a result of several projects that improved the environmental performance of the company last year.
These projects included the:
- Reconstruction of seven gas cleaning facilities
- Capital repair of purification plants of storm collectors at the motor transport shop
- Physical and chemical fixation of dust-forming surfaces at the tailing dumps of the mining department
- Successful recertification and compliance of the company's environmental management system with ISO 14001:2004, the environmental management system certification.
These measures are said to have successfully reduced emissions at ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih by approximately 732,686 tonnes.
Rinat Starkov, CEO of ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih, said: "During the last five years, we have invested nearly 1.5 billion UAH (188.7 million USD) to reduce pollution. Our environmental projects are aimed at gradually replacing out-dated equipment with new, more environmentally friendly technologies that allow us to significantly decrease the impact of the plant on the environment."
