ArcelorMittal was recently highlighted in the SAM 2010 Sustainability Yearbook. ArcelorMittal also received two distinctions as a "SAM Sector Mover" and as a "SAM Bronze Class" company.
Each year, the world's 2500 largest companies are invited to participate in SAM's Corporate Sustainability Assessment. SAM conducts a thorough analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, rating companies against a strict set of criteria, including corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards and labor practices.
Only the top-scoring 15% of the companies in each of the 58 sectors assessed by SAM are eligible for inclusion in Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) and likewise, "The Sustainability Yearbook". Operated by Dow Jones Indexes, in partnership with sustainable investment boutique SAM, the DJSI uses a best-in-class approach to rank sustainability leaders from across all industries.
Within each sector’s top 15%, the title of "SAM Sector Mover" is awarded to the company that achieved the biggest proportional improvement in its sustainability performance compared with last year.
To qualify for the SAM Bronze Class, the SAM Sector Leader must achieve a total score in the range of 65-70%. Peer group companies whose total score is within 5% of the SAM Sector Leader are also awarded "SAM Bronze Class".
