ArcelorMittal Honored as Energy Star Partner of the Year

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy have selected ArcelorMittal as an ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year for excellent Energy Management.

Receiving the award for the second consecutive year, ArcelorMittal continues to be the only steel company to achieve this respected distinction.

“While we have a lot to celebrate, we must continue to find ways to decrease energy use,” said Larry Fabina, Energy Conservation Programme Manager, ArcelorMittal USA. “Our commitment to energy reduction is an ongoing process and does not end when goals are achieved.”

ArcelorMittal's U.S. facilities have since 2006 focused on improving energy efficiency and reducing costs while increasing productivity. In support of these goals, the company launched an Energy Reduction Initiative that has helped it accomplish a 4.1% improvement in energy intensity over the past 3 years. For ArcelorMittal, this accomplishment translates to $131 million (US dollars) of annualized savings.

ArcelorMittal's U.S. facilities have achieved energy savings over the past 2 years by reducing its use of natural gas, fuel oil and purchased electricity. ArcelorMittal also worked hard to communicate the importance of energy conservation to its employees, families, suppliers, end users and the general public.
