ArcelorMittal Galati Invests €1.2 Million to Improve Sintering Machines

ArcelorMittal Galati of Romania recently invested over 1.2 million at its sintering machines No. 5 and 6 to improve its performances. The project included the design, the engineering and building of a quick lime injection unit. This investment is reducing costs and allows the Galati Unit to use cheaper ores without affecting the quality of the hot metal
"ArcelorMittal Galati continues its program to improve the performance of its hot flow", said Bruno Ribo, CEO of ArcelorMittal Galati. "The investment in the quick lime injection unit will consolidate our sinter production capacity, as well as improving productivity and will lead to a significant cost reduction, which is crucial in the current economic environment".
The investment will bring an important cost reduction by using an increased level of the concentrates instead of expensive ores.
The machine consists of a crusher that grinds the raw material from the lime plant. The lime dust is afterwards loaded into new silos for both sintering machines. From here, the dust is sent into special bunkers and mixed with the other elements. The new injection facility successfully passed the tests and is now in operation.
The investment project is the result of a cooperation between experts from ArcelorMittal Galati and specialists from the sister units of the Group. The construction works were completed by a Romanian company within in a period of six months.
