ArcelorMittal Fulfills Order for New Grade of Sheet Piling

ArcelorMittal said the order for its corrosion-resistant AMLoCor Blue 320 sheet piling was bound for the Port of Lerwick’s Holmsgarth Quay project in the Shetland Islands. The project includes deeper berthing and a larger working area for fishing fleets and a fish market. The steel is being used in the quay’s main wall and anchor wall.

AMLoCor Blue 320 Is a corrosion-resistant, microalloyed grade that is being deployed in low water zones, where biological processes have been known to accelerate corrosion.

“The techno-commercial approach of ArcelorMittal sheet piling, along with the strength of our product, was key in securing this win,” said Thierry Laux, chief marketing officer for sheet piling, in a statement.

“AMLoCor started life in the lab at ArcelorMittal’s global R&D division, and we’re delighted that our largest shipment to date is going toward an important project in such a unique location.”

The company said two previous projects were important in demonstrating the new steel grade’s stability and corrosion resistance in marine environments.

The order, which was fulfilled by ArcelorMittal’s Belval Mill 2 in Luxembourg, was delivered in three shipments, which began in January 2015.
