ArcelorMittal Dofasco Selects Quintiq to Optimize Maintenance Scheduling

ArcelorMittal Dofasco is a leading North American steel producer and supplier of high quality flat rolled steels, producing and shipping 4.5 million tons of steel annually. ArcelorMittal Dofasco employs a maintenance workforce of more than 1400 employees, supplemented with contractors, to maintain more than 50 operating units across the Hamilton site. Several thousand work orders are processed every week supporting both operating unit planned outages and day-to-day work.

“Maintenance scheduling can be complex, time consuming and labor intensive without the help of a software tool,” said Gino Palarchio, general manager, maintenance. “Implementing the Quintiq Solution is intended to provide full visibility of all work and resources directed at maintaining our facilities, to assist in maximizing utilization and achieving high levels of resource efficiency and effectiveness.”

In order to optimize maintenance, ArcelorMittal Dofasco required an integrated scheduling solution to make decisions in real time, while anticipating demand and being able to react to schedule disruptions. The system is designed to allow maintenance teams to be proactive in their workforce planning, manage work order backlogs and minimize the amount of time a machine is out of service. The Quintiq Solution is designed to streamline the maintenance scheduling process and decrease the time it takes to schedule work.

“One of the key innovative benefits of the Quintiq software platform is its ability to provide visibility of the planned utilization of maintenance resources and identify where there is open capacity to accommodate newly identified work across the total site,” said David Kenneson, Quintiq’s Vice President, Sales, North America. “Our solution is designed to support over 50 departments at ArcelorMittal Dofasco to increase the efficiency of scheduling maintenance work.”
