ArcelorMittal Differdange Home to New Floating Solar Farm

Back in 2019, ArcelorMittal and Enovos partnered in response to Luxembourg’s call for more production of solar energy, according to a company press release.

Construction began on the project in March 2021 and the solar farm was commissioned last week. Eventually, the solar electricity produced from this project will produce 3 GWh/year, enough power to supply the annual electricity usage of 3,200 people.

“With this project, which is in line with ArcelorMittal's sustainable development strategy in Luxembourg, and in particular with our commitment to communities and citizens, we have made available the conversion of an industrial basin for sustainable energy production,” said Thomas Georges, chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal Differdange.

“The combined efforts of ArcelorMittal and Enovos have made it possible to develop an innovative solution for the benefit of Luxembourg households. This project is a first for our sites and serves as an inspiration for future projects, as part of our decarbonization strategy.”
