ArcelorMittal Commits US$100 Million to Breakthrough Energy’s Catalyst Program

The Catalyst program unites public and private sector investment to finance and scale up the critical technologies needed to combat climate change, including carbon direct air capture, green hydrogen, long-duration energy storage and sustainable aviation fuel.

ArcelorMittal is one of seven major corporations that will serve as anchor partners for the Catalyst initiative. American Airlines, Bank of America, The BlackRock Foundation, Boston Consulting Group, General Motors and Microsoft have also joined the effort.

“The Catalyst program is innovative and necessary,” said ArcelorMittal chief executive Aditya Mittal in a statement. “It brings together public and private finance with the objective of fast-tracking the deployment of projects which can deliver significant carbon reduction. For ArcelorMittal and the steel industry this kind of initiative is critically important.”
