ArcelorMittal Commits US$100 Million to Breakthrough Energy’s Catalyst Program
09/20/2021 - ArcelorMittal has joined green technology accelerator Breakthrough Energy’s Catalyst initiative as an anchor partner and will invest US$100 million to help fast-track industrial decarbonization, the steelmaker announced today.
ArcelorMittal is one of seven major corporations that will serve as anchor partners for the Catalyst initiative. American Airlines, Bank of America, The BlackRock Foundation, Boston Consulting Group, General Motors and Microsoft have also joined the effort.
“The Catalyst program is innovative and necessary,” said ArcelorMittal chief executive Aditya Mittal in a statement. “It brings together public and private finance with the objective of fast-tracking the deployment of projects which can deliver significant carbon reduction. For ArcelorMittal and the steel industry this kind of initiative is critically important.”
