ArcelorMittal Commissions New Ladle Shop in Polish Facility

ArcelorMittal Poland has commissioned two new investments at its unit in Dąbrowa Górnicza – a Pulverized Coal Injection (PCI) into blast furnace No. 2 and a modernized sinter belt. Those two projects, worth PLN 140 m, will not only optimize production costs, but also significantly reduce emissions.
The new PCI installation is located at blast furnace No. 2 in Dąbrowa Górnicza and is dedicated to this plant. It will help optimize the production costs of hot metal used for steel production. This will be achieved thanks to replacing some amounts of coke with pulverized coal. It will also be beneficial to the environment since production of pulverized coal is more environmentally friendly than the production of coke.
The modernization of sinter belt No. 2 will result in the production capacity of sinter, which is a charge material for blast furnace, being increased. Moreover, two brand new, modern electro-filters, with a capacity of 900,000 m3/h, will allow a significant reduction in dust emissions.
“I am particularly glad that both projects will significantly contribute to environmental protection. I do believe that ArcelorMittal’s approach will be noticed by other companies operating in the region and that it will become an example of how the industry, by taking modernization efforts, can take care of environment and health of local communities,” said Zbigniew Podraza, mayor of Dąbrowa Górnicza, during the opening ceremony.
“We are proud of the fact that we are able to continue our investments despite challenging market conditions. We believe that they will help us get through the periods of uncertainty, as well as allow us to remain flexible and thus adapt to changing economic reality. Both PCI installation and modernized sinter belt are excellent investments, not only from a business point of view, but also due to the fact that they improve our environmental footprint,” said Manfred Van Vlierberghe, CEO and deputy BOD chairman of ArcelorMittal Poland.
