ArcelorMittal Brazil Set to Begin Work on New Coke Oven Battery
01/09/2019 - Construction is to begin later this year on a new coke oven battery at ArcelorMittal’s Tubarão plant in Brazil, according to the contractor on the project.
In an announcement from thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions, the company said the new, 49-oven battery will replace one of three thyssenkrupp coke plant batteries that were built in the early 1980s.
“This order is a further important milestone in the close and longstanding partnership with our customer, ArcelorMittal. We have been working together in various projects for more than 15 years and are happy to again contribute our experience gained in building hundreds of coking plants worldwide,” said Paulo Alvarenga, chief executive of thyssenkrupp South America.
The company said the new battery will incorporate the latest in environmental technologies. Among those, it said, are the latest generation of its EnviBAT pressure regulation system and an advanced heating system to ensure high coke quality and low emissions.
In addition to supplying the equipment, thyssenkrupp also will provide the engineering and oversee construction.
