This episode follows the journey of the beams from ArcelorMittal Differdange, Luxembourg, to Ground Zero in New York City. The episode shows the work that went into creating these beams at Differdange—the only steel mill in the world that can produce them—and introduces the masterminds behind them. The development process takes place at ArcelorMittal’s Metallurgy Department in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, and in Differdange.
Once in New York, the episode will focus on the creators of the Freedom Tower and the visit to Ground Zero, making this episode an unforgettable journey. ArcelorMittal Web TV was privileged to be given the honor as one of the first camera crews given access to the Ground Zero site since the atrocities of 9/11 seven years ago.
“Coming from Luxembourg, one of the smallest countries in the world, we are producing the biggest steel beams in the world,” said Bob Manet, Process Engineer, ArcelorMittal Esch-Sur-Alzette. “Everybody is very proud to be a part of this project for such an important building in America.”
The beams weigh 730 pounds per foot, and range in length from 30 to 56 feet for shipping. The Freedom Tower will be completed in 2012.
