ANDRITZ to Outfit Open-Die Forge With Seven Car Bottom Furnaces
06/26/2023 - The international technology group announced it has received an order from Sheffield Forgemasters for seven new car bottom furnaces.
The order consists of three forging and four heat treatment furnaces for Sheffield Forgemasters’ planned 13,000-metric-ton forging line in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England.
With a capacity of up to 1,000 metric tons, the furnaces will feature rail-mounted car bottoms and utilize state-of-the-art burner technology.
The forging furnaces will use regenerative flat flame burners, which enable high burner power without overheating. The heat treatment furnaces will be equipped with high-quality recuperative burners.
“The furnaces will be the mainstay of our new heavy forging line, using the latest burner technologies for optimum efficiency and heat control. They can also switch to hydrogen if the technology to move away from natural gas becomes viable,” said Steve Marshall, manufacturing transformation director at Sheffield Forgemasters.
