ANDRITZ Selected to Supply New U.S. Electrical Steel Facility

According to a press release, the S6-high cold rolling mill can process steel up to 1,650 mm wide at speeds up to 1,000  m/minute, achieving thickness between 0.2 and 0.5 mm. It will be equipped with a process model for heating, cooling and rolling.

The annealing and coating line will process the cold-rolled strip into high-quality nongrain oriented electrical steel (NOES) with an electrically heated furnace. ANDRITZ said it will reduce emissions while optimizing material quality and energy use.

ANDRITZ will design and supply all mechanical and electrical equipment and oversee installation and commissioning.

“We are very pleased to have been selected by ArcelorMittal for this important project that contributes to the shift towards sustainable mobility. We are committed to supporting our customers in driving the green transition,” said Joachim Schönbeck, chief executive officer of ANDRITZ.

The company estimates the facility will produce up to 150,000 tons of NOES annually, supporting sustainable transportation, commercial and industrial applications.

“We recognize the importance of creating a resilient, sustainable domestic supply chain for this critical material,” said John Brett, chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal North America.

This order strengthens the long-standing partnership between ArcelorMittal and ANDRITZ.
