ANDRITZ Carbon Capture Plant Now in Operation at voestalpine

The pilot plant started operating in the second quarter of this year.

According to an official press release, the plant separates carbon dioxide from flue gases resulting from ironmaking using an amine-based process designed by ANDRITZ. The captured CO2 is then captured in industrial gas bottles and delivered to an energy storage company that is investigating methods to make it available for reuse in steel production.

“As the availability of renewable energy and green hydrogen will not be sufficient to meet medium-term climate targets, carbon capture will play a key role in significantly reducing CO2 emissions in this transition phase,” said ANDRITZ chief executive Joachim Schönbeck.
