Analysts Expect Chinese Steel Exports to Plateau by 2020

According to the news service, analysts said they expect net shipments to hold at around 90 million metric tons and remain unchanged through 2035.

“Booming steel exports have helped steel production hold up relatively better than steel demand, but we believe exports have reached a peak,” the analysts said in a 4 October report. “With Chinese exports doubling in the last two years, waves of protectionism measures have been triggered globally.”

According to JPMorgan, net shipments from China might total 86 million tons this year and 87 million in 2016. However, Wang Liqun, vice chairman at the China Iron & Steel Association, told reporters last month that shipments will surpass 100 million tons this year as overseas sales remain strong, Bloomberg said.
