Analysts: Expect a Challenging Year, But Some Slight Production Growth Is Likely
02/01/2016 - The world’s steel industry is projected to grow slightly in 2016, with production rising by around 0.15 percent, according to newspaper survey of analysts.
According to the survey, conducted by The (London) Financial Times, growth in the U.S. and Europe is expected to offset a second year of projected contraction in China. Nevertheless, several analysts said they believe 2016 will be another difficult year.
“It will continue to be a challenging year for global steel companies. Profit margins and price levels [are] still very unsatisfactory and it’s hard to see a short-term improvement,” Commerzbank’s Ingo Schachel told the newspaper.
