American Iron and Steel Steel Institute Elects New Chairman

"Mike’s been a strong leader in our industry and we’re honored to have him serve as our chairman for the next year," said Thomas J. Gibson, AISI president and CEO. "His work to advance comprehensive and well-funded infrastructure policy, promote effective energy policy and champion steel against competing materials, has been vital to ensuring that steel remains the backbone of America."

The appointment was made today by the AISI Board during the Institute’s 122nd General Meeting being held this week at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in Scottsdale, Arizona. In his role as Chairman, Rippey will lead advocacy efforts on behalf of AISI and the industry to advance pro-manufacturing polices that will enhance the competitiveness of the North American steel industry.

"I’m proud to be helping lead the top notch advocacy and market development activities at AISI. The Institute’s successes will continue to help steel remain competitive and highlight our issues to decision makers and customers. I look forward to continuing to roll up my sleeves and get out there to promote our industry and our messages," said Rippey.

AISI also announced new members of the Board of Directors and Board-level committee leadership changes:
  • Peter Campo, president, Gerdau Long Steel North American, replaced Guilherme Johannpeter, recently promoted to executive vice president of Gerdau, as the AISI board member.
  • John Ferriola, president, chairman and CEO, Nucor Corporation, was elected chairman of the Finance Committee, replacing Chuck Schmitt, president, SSAB Americas.
