AM/NS India to Invest in Zero Liquid Discharge System
07/13/2022 - The ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel joint venture has announced a Rs 273 crore investment in a zero liquid discharge system and other environmental initiatives at its Hazira facility in India.
According to the Business Standard, the company is investing Rs 77 crore in the 14-km-long zero liquid discharge system, another Rs 173 crore is earmarked for the initial phase of an environment improvement plan and a further Rs 12 crore for planting more than 300,000 trees on the property.
The zero liquid discharge system will cover the entire Hazira facility and is aimed at eliminating liquid waste by enabling the reuse of treated effluent with RO units. The system is anticipated to be completed by March 2023.
"AM/NS is committed to the best environmental norms and adopting green practices at our Hazira plant. We have undertaken various environmental improvement related projects which are in line with the global steel manufacturing standards," said Santosh Mundhada, executive director at AM/NS India.
