Allied Tube Shutters Plant, Exits Sprinkler, Fence Markets

As a result, the company will shutter its Philadelphia, Pa., plant and eliminate fence- and sprinkler-related operations at two other facilities in Harvey, Ill., and Phoenix, Ariz. About 317 positions are to be eliminated, the company said.

"We continually conduct strategic reviews of our businesses and their alignment with our mission to be customers' first choice for electrical raceway and mechanical products and solutions.  While this was a difficult decision, it was necessary to ensure we direct the appropriate focus and resources on delivering greater overall value to our customers in our core businesses," said John Williamson, president and CEO of Allied Tube's parent company, Atkore International.

Williamson said the company's Cope-brand cable management facility and regional distribution center, which sit next to the Philadelphia plant, will continue to operate. He added that the FlexHead and SprinkFLEX product lines, which serve the serve the fire protection market, Allied Tube's Razor Ribbon barbed tape products, which serve the fence market, are unaffected by the decision.

"Rebalancing Atkore's portfolio with this latest change will only serve to strengthen our already solid financial performance and ensure our continued position as a customer-focused leader in the markets we serve," Williamson said.

The company said it will honor existing contracts and customer service commitments during the phase-out of fence and sprinkler businesses.
