Allegheny Ludlum Starts up 2nd Danieli EAF

Allegheny Ludlum recently started up a second Danieli electric arc furnace (EAF) at its Brackenridge, Pa., meltshop.

The state-of-the-art EAFs, which replaced four existing EAFs as a major modernization of the Brackenridge stainless steel plant, are helping to reduce production costs and improve product quality. The new units feature advanced mechanical design, such as current conducting arms, water-cooled panels and roof, bearing swing system, and servo-positioning hydraulics.

Danieli Automation supplied the total control system, including Level 1 machine control with HMIs, enhanced electrode regulation system, Level 2-process control and the power demand system.

Allegheny Ludlum produces a wide range of 200-, 300- and 400-series stainless steels, Ni-base alloys and tool steels at its Brackenridge facility.
