Algoma Steelworkers Vote to Strike if Necessary
07/14/2004 - The membership of the United Steelworkers’ Local 2251 has voted 96% in favor of strike action against Algoma Steel Inc. if the negotiating committee deems it necessary.
The membership of the United Steelworkers’ Local 2251 has voted 96% in favor of strike action against Algoma Steel Inc. if the negotiating committee deems it necessary.
The vote followed presentation of a snapshot of the company's latest proposal.
Members of Local 2251 have historically supported the company's requests in time of need. “One person did not save this company,” comments Local 2251 leadership. “All the workers did, first in 1992 and again in 2001.”
The union is seeking a collective agreement that is “fair to all the workers.”
