Algoma Steel Commences Plate Mill Upgrade
11/25/2019 - Danieli has been selected to overhaul the 166-inch wide plate mill at Canada’s Algoma Steel Inc., the equipment supplier has announced.
In a statement, Danieli said it will replace the automation system mill-wide, from level 0 to level 2, and will install a new primary de-scaler, a new hot-leveler and a new cooling bed. The order also includes a new dividing shear, piling system, automated inspection system and plate marking machine for the finishing area.
“Along with new process equipment and new digital drives, this will allow Algoma to perform normalized, or controlled, rolling so that it can supply new grades of plate to the shipbuilding, energy and bridge building sectors.
Work started last month and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2021.
