Alacero: Recovering Steel Demand Pushes Production to Pre-Pandemic Levels
11/19/2020 - Latin American steel production returned to pre-pandemic levels in September, lifted by a recovery in steel consuming sectors, reports the Alacero, the Latin America Steel Association.
According to Alacero, September crude steel production stood at 4.69 million metric tons, down only 0.2% from the same month in 2019.
“The economic recovery in Latin American countries has been very varied, but something in common is the resilience of the steel-consuming sectors, which, as an essential material, is not only present in the recovery, but it is one of its engines of growth,” the association said, adding that the civil construction and automotive sectors in Argentina and Mexico have led the recovery.
