AK Steel to Increase Carbon Steel Prices
01/17/2008 - AK Steel will increase spot market prices for all new carbon steel product orders accepted for shipment on March 1, 2008 and later.
AK Steel announced that it will increase spot market prices by $30 per ton for its carbon steel products. This increase will take effect for all new orders accepted for shipment on March 1, 2008 and later.
AK Steel said that its March order book is now open for hot rolled products. The company also noted that there are limited quantities of cold rolled and galvanized products remaining for March.
The company said that it is making the price increase in response to increased demand for carbon steel products, as well as the need to recover higher costs for steelmaking inputs.
AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steels, primarily for automotive, appliance, construction and electrical power generation and distribution markets. The company employs about 6500 men and women in Middletown, Mansfield, Coshocton and Zanesville, Ohio; Butler, Pa.; Ashland, Ky.; Rockport, Ind.; and its corporate headquarters in West Chester, Ohio.
AK Tube LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of AK Steel, employs about 300 men and women in plants in Walbridge, Ohio, and Columbus, Ind. AK Tube produces carbon and stainless electric resistance welded (ERW) tubular steel products for truck, automotive and other markets.
