AK Steel to Close Parts of Michigan Facility
05/06/2020 - AK Steel will permanently close parts of its Dearborn Works in Michigan this summer, according to reports.
The company notified the state in a WARN Act letter, saying it will shutter the plant’s hot strip mill and annealing and tempering operations. The move affects approximately 340 and is to take effect 5 July.
Local 600 of the United Auto Workers, which represents employees at the mill, told the The Detroit News that the decision is an
“undercapacity issue” and not related to the downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
