AK Steel Plants Recognized for Outstanding Safety Performance

AK Steel's manufacturing plants in Coshocton and Zanesville, Ohio, have been recognized by the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, Division of Safety and Hygiene for outstanding safety performance.  The recognition is part of a collaborative safety awareness program established by local chambers of commerce and their safety councils.  
 
AK Steel's Coshocton Works received the Group Award for Safety for having the lowest incident rate in its industrial group for 2010 and the 100% Award for Safety for operating the entire year of 2010 without any lost-time injuries or illnesses. Coshocton Works also received a Special Award for Safety for working 2,438,681 hours without a lost-time injury between February 20, 2008 and December 31, 2010.  
 
AK Steel's Zanesville Works received the 100% Award for Safety for operating the entire year of 2010 without any lost-time injuries or illnesses.  The plant also received a Special Award for Safety for working 3,519,675 hours without a lost-time injury between April 21, 2003 and December 31, 2010.

According to the company, AK Steel's corporate-wide safety performance was about 7 times better than the steel industry average for the full-year 2010.
 
AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steels, primarily for automotive, appliance, construction and electrical power generation and distribution markets. The company employs about 6200 men and women in Middletown, Mansfield, Coshocton and Zanesville, Ohio; Butler, Pa.; Ashland, Ky.; Rockport, Ind.; and its corporate headquarters in West Chester, Ohio.  
 
AK Tube LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of AK Steel, employs about 300 men and women in plants in Walbridge, Ohio, and Columbus, Ind. AK Tube produces carbon and stainless electric resistance welded (ERW) tubular steel products for truck, automotive and other markets.
