AK Steel Awarded Grant to Support Electrical Steel
12/21/2016 - AK Steel Corp. has been awarded a US$1.8 million federal grant to help it develop new grades of electrical steels, according to The Cincinnati (Ohio) Enquirer newspaper.
According to the newspaper, the grant is through the Department of Energy’s Next Generation Electric Machines program, which is designed to foster development of more powerful and more efficicent electric motors.
AK Steel will use the funding to explore how it might improve the resistivity of standard electrical steels through different chemical compositions.
AK Steel chief executive Roger Newport told the newspaper that the company is "pleased to be considered for this collaborative agreement to develop innovative grades of electrical steel."
