AIST Appoints New Board President, Officers
05/20/2016 - The general manager of America’s largest integrated steel works has been named president of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology, the association has announced.
"I am humbled and it is an honor to serve in this role. I look forward to working with colleagues in the industry on ways to stimulate membership to strengthen the association for years to come,” said Wendell L. Carter, vice president and general manager of ArcelorMittal’s Indiana Harbor steel works in East Chicago, Ind.
Carter’s appointment took effect during the association’s annual conference and exposition, AISTech, which was held 16-19 May in Pittsburgh, Pa. He succeeds George J. Koenig, director of global business and technology development for the iron and steel unit of Hatch Associates Inc.
Koenig will continue to serve on the board as the past president.
Also, the association said Randy C. Skagen, vice president and general manager of Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc., in Tuscaloosa, Ala., has been named the board’s first vice president. James F. Dudek, managing director of strategic planning and support for United States Steel Corp., has been appointed second vice president.
Officers-at-large are:
Missouri University of Science and Technology professor Ronald J. O'Malley, director of the university’s Kent D. Peaslee Steel Manufacturing Research Center; Steven J. Henderson, CMC Americas vice president and chief supply chain officer; Barry T. Schneider, senior vice president of Steel Dynamics Inc.’s flat rolled group; and Keith J. Howell, of West Chester, Ohio.
Joseph Dzierzawski, president and chief executive officer of SMS USA LLC, in Pittsburgh, was re-appointed treasurer. AIST executive director Ronald E. Ashburn will continue to serve as secretary.
