AISI Welcomes ThyssenKrupp Steel USA as New Member
02/08/2011 - The AISI Board of Directors welcomed ThyssenKrupp Steel USA as a producer member during its quarterly meeting held February 3 in Washington, D.C.
The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) Board of Directors welcomed ThyssenKrupp Steel USA as a producer member during its quarterly meeting held February 3 in Washington, D.C.
The company’s Calvert, Ala., plant, which has been under development since 2007, will have the annual capacity to produce 4.7 million tons of carbon steel coiled product once it is fully operational.
“As Chairman of AISI, I’m pleased to welcome ThyssenKrupp Steel USA President and CEO Christoph Lackinger to the AISI Board of Directors and to extend that welcome to all the employees of ThyssenKrupp Steel USA,” said AISI Chairman Daniel R. DiMicco, who is Chairman and CEO of Nucor Corp. “As our industry advances its pro-manufacturing strategy, having a unified voice and presence throughout the country is a tremendous asset to the progress of our public policy agenda.”

Gibson said ThyssenKrupp USA joins the Institute as AISI embarks on intensive efforts to inform the tremendous number of new Members of the 112th Congress of the industry’s top policy priorities and of its impressive environmental achievements. He said that AISI is focused on advocating for policies to expand the competitiveness of the domestic steel industry, including the need to develop a range of sustainable domestic energy sources, better trade enforcement and infrastructure investment, with particular focus on upgrading America’s highways and bridges.
AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice. AISI also plays a lead role in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking technology. The Institute comprises 25 member companies, including integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and 140 associate and affiliate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry.
