AISI: Weekly Raw Steel Production Up 2.4% for Week Ending 16 May 2015

Production was 1,860,000 net tons in the week ending May 16, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 77.3 percent. The current week production represents a 8.3 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending May 16, 2015 is up 2.4 percent from the previous week ending May 9, 2015 when production was 1,665,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 70.4 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through May 16, 2015 was 33,210,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.3 percent. That is down 7.2 percent from the 35,785,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.0 percent.

Broken down by districts, production for the week ending May 16, 2015 in thousands of net tons was the following: North East: 221; Great Lakes: 613; Midwest: 210; Southern: 575 and Western: 86 for a total of 1,705.

Note: Capability for the Second Quarter 2015 is approximately 30.7 million tons versus 31.3 million tons for the same period last year and 30.4 million tons for the First Quarter of 2015.
