AISI: Weekly Raw Steel Production Ticks Up 3.3% From Prior Week
07/17/2015 - The American Iron and Steel Institute released their weekly U.S. Raw Steel Production statistics for the week ending 11 July.
Domestic raw steel production was 1,740,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 72.8 percent. Production was 1,914,000 net tons in the week ending July 11, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 79.6 percent. The current week production represents a 9.1 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending July 11, 2015 is up 3.3 percent from the previous week ending July 4, 2015 when production was 1,684,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 71.2 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through July 11, 2015 was 46,994,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.4 percent. That is down 7.6 percent from the 50,876,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.6 percent.
Broken down by districts, production for the week ending July 11, 2015 in thousands of net tons was the following: North East: 218; Great Lakes: 633; Midwest: 209; Southern: 597 and Western: 83 for a total of 1,740.
