AISI: Weekly Raw Steel Production Slips 2.8% From Prior Week, 11.4% Decrease Year on Year
07/09/2015 - The American Iron and Steel Institute released its weekly raw steel production statistics for the week ending 4 July 2015.
Domestic raw steel production was 1,684,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 71.2 percent. Production was 1,900,000 net tons in the week ending July 4, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 79.0 percent. The current week production represents a 11.4 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending July 4, 2015 is down 2.8 percent from the previous week ending June 27, 2015 when production was 1,733,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 73.3 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through July 4, 2015 was 45,254,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.4 percent. That is down 7.6 percent from the 48,962,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.4 percent.
Broken down by districts, production for the week ending July 4, 2015 in thousands of net tons: North East: 225; Great Lakes: 628; Midwest: 204; Southern: 555 and Western: 72 for a total of 1,684.
Adjusted year-to-date production through July 4, 2015 was 45,254,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.4 percent. That is down 7.6 percent from the 48,962,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.4 percent.
