AISI: U.S. Steel Shipments Up 5.6% in First 11 Months of 2012
01/23/2013 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that steel shipments from January through November 2012 were 88,465,543 tons, a 5.6% increase vs. 2011 shipments of 83,779,688 tons for 11 months.
The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of November 2012, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,397,149 tons, a 0.5% decrease from the 7,430,267 tons shipped in the previous month, October 2012, and a 0.2% decrease from the 7,409,450 tons shipped in November 2011. Shipments year-to-date (YTD) in 2012 were 88,465,543 tons, a 5.6% increase vs. 2011 shipments of 83,779,688 tons for 11 months. 2012 shipments through November would annualize at 97 million tons.
Shipments in November were 8% lower than the 2012 monthly average and slightly lower than November of 2011. Raw steel production in November was 7.5 million tons—down 3.6% vs. the 7.8 million tons produced 12 months ago.
A comparison of November shipments to the previous month of October shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, up 4%, cold rolled sheet, down 3% and hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 6%.
