The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) released its Profile 2013 today, highlighting the importance of the North American steel industry to our nation’s economy, manufacturing and national security. In the 34-page booklet, AISI profiles the steel industry’s economic contributions, dedication to advancing environmental stewardship, leadership in global productivity and its vital role to the automotive, construction and container markets. The Profile 2013 includes:
  • Facts about why steel is at the core of the green economy;
  • America steel industry’s job creation and labor performance records;
  • Steel shipments by markets and the U.S. Steel Industry Statistical Highlights;
  • Steel’s vital role to America’s infrastructure and national security;
  • Breakthrough technologies advancing the U.S. steelmaking process; and,
  • A list of AISI producer members, locations and products.
AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice. AISI also plays a lead role in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking technology. AISI is comprised of 25 member companies, including integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and 124 associate and affiliate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry. AISI's member companies represent over three quarters of both U.S. and North American steel capacity.
